Bude and North Cornwall Ladies Section continues to thrive, flying the flag high for our club both within the county and nationally. Following on from the fabulous achievements of 2016 and 2017, in the Mail on Sunday and Annodata finals in Spain respectively, the summer of 2018 saw Collette Burgess and Hana Dabrowski become the National Coronation Foursome Champions. Having won their regional qualifier, they travelled to St Andrews and returned an impressive 42pts in this foursome format to clinch the title. An amazing achievement.
The section remains in the County 1st Division, runners up once again in the summer of 2019 and also present holders of the Baron Rose Bowl, won by Collette Burgess and Mandy Congdon.
High on the priority list for the ladies is their fund raising. During the difficult summer of 2020, a team of four signed up for the Macmillian Longest Golf Day Challenge. Within a matter of days, the players had raised close on £2000 pounds for the charity. Beginning their challenge at 5.30am the ladies had completed the four rounds by 6.30pm, with great scores throughout the day. The support from all members was as always much appreciated.
Various other competitions throughout the busy schedule support other very worthwhile causes both nationally and throughout the community. Our Lady Captain’s Charity also runs throughout the whole year.
The ladies section has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere for new members. The main competitions are held on Wednesdays and Sundays but fun days, away days roll ups and coffee morning make for a very varied diary to suit everyone.
The Ladies section are also delighted to announce they have achieved “Women in Golf Charter” status. This is to certify that is a registered signatory of the Women in Golf Charter. By working towards its Charter Commitments, this signatory is contributing towards creating a positive change in golf, one which will create a more inclusive culture that encourages more women and girls to thrive in the game.
