Latest news (27th Nov)

It’s been another busy month on the course, focusing on aeration of greens and tees.

Cutting heights

Greens 5mm, Tees and aprons 9mm, Fairways 14mm

Greens

These have been slit twice to a depth of 150mm and verti-drained once to a depth of 200mm using 12 mm solid tines. The benefits of aeration are to encourage root development and help improve moisture levels within the soil profile. We will be aerating as many times as possible throughout the winter months.

Tees and Aprons

These have solid tined to a depth of 100mm using 12mm solid tines, this will help improve root development and relieve surface compaction.

We will be alternating the 4th and 8th   tee between the main tee and winter tee areas over the next couple months. This will help ease the foot traffic and wear on the main tee.

We have been demonstrating a brush attachment in front of the tees and apron mower. This will help stand up the grass prior to cutting. It will produce a more even cut, by reducing the courser grasses and in turn improve the playing surface.

Fairways

We will start verti-draining fairways over the next couple of weeks 18mm tines to a depth of 250 – 300mm.

As we are moving into the winter months the greens will become more receptive due to the moisture levels in the soil. Could you please make sure that pitch marks are repaired on the green.
